Disaster strikes

I’m a jinx, have to be.

I was making the tea yesterday, turned the oven on to heat it up and it went on fire, eeep!

Thankfully I had stayed in the kitchen and was able to control the situation with a fire extinguisher.( Incidentally, I can now say that powder fire extinguishers don’t taste good. *spit, spit*)

Tea tonight was an interesting experience. I’m now in the realms of student cooking.

Microwave.

Toaster.

Kettle.

That’s it.

Oh and the suppliers of the oven say that it could be up to 2 days before they get an engineer out to look at it. My guarantee just ran out about 3 weeks ago, sodding typical!

How happy am I?

Well I’m a very happy bunny tonight. I found something today that  really really like and I haven’t been able to buy it for ages…….

Clamato Juice!!! I love this stuff and I can buy it here in Northern Ireland on rare occasions. I was so happy to see these 900ml containers I bought 2 of them. Even though they did cost me a hefty £6 each (ouch! W & S if you read this that’s $19 Cdn Eeek!!!!)

Good job I can’t get it all the time or I would be broke by now!

Spuds!!!!!

I haven’t had a lot going on in the garden this year. Our house is up for sale so I didn’t want to have a whole lot of goodies planted then let someone else reap the benefits of my hard work!!
All we put in were a few spuds, tomatoes and lettuce. The lettuce was a waste of time, it’s done absolutely pot all. I’ll be old and wrinkly waiting on lettuce at this rate! Tomatoes are coming along, just some sun required to ripen a few and our spuds are just ready to harvest.

Small sprog is out collecting away in the muck, so far I have enough to fill my veggie box in the kitchen with more left to lift. This is the first year I planted them and left them to their own devices, so far it’s looking like a good crop, so much for all the loving care I put in last year!!

Baked bread cups

This evening I prepared some baked bread cups for my bento lunch tomorrow. The bread cups are very quick to prepare and are a tasty alternative to quiche.

For each bread cup you will need:

1 to 1 1/2 slices bread
1 egg
and what ever filling you’dlike
salt and pepper
grated cheese
butter or margarine

(I used shallow baking cups that I bought in poundland. You can make these in a bun tin or a muffin pan.)

Cut the crust off the slice of bread.
Roll each slice of bread with a rolling pin until very thin.
Spread each side with butter or margarine.
Press into cup as you would with pastry.
Add your filling and cover with seasoned, beaten egg.

Place on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven, 180 degrees c for 10 to 15 minutes.
Ensure that egg is thoroughly cooked right through to the centre.

When cooled, you can place these in the fridge for lunches or you can eat them hot :)

This weekend…….

I’m off to a fancy pants hotel for my wedding anniversary! I hope to have a very posh evening out with my husband and a lovely relaxing time too.

I will try and take some pictures, though I won’t make any promises as I have a head like a sieve!

Maybe I’ll have another little bit of interesting information too, just wait and see!
